The drive up Independence Pass is always lovely, but it's especially so in the early spring when there's still a lot of snow to empahasize the contours of the mountains. The melt was certainly in process of sending its clear liquid gold on an easterly slide. This peak is only a few summits down the ridge from Colorado's highest, Mt. Elbert, at 14,433 feet. This is a pass which connects Twin Lakes to Aspen, Colorado. It's always been a favorite of ours any time it's open. The alpine flowers are very accessible and prolific.
